Charity Fund Raising

Developing Communities, Improving Society

Homes by Holmes is a company driven by Managing Director James Holmes’ passion for his community.

Beyond regeneration projects and building quality homes, we’re also dedicated to fundraising for charities that are important to our team.

The aim is to improve not just the lives of our residents but also those of the entire community by supporting organisations that focus on mental & physical health.

James has so far raised more than £100,000 for Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Showmen’s Mental Health with many more fundraising events planned for 2023.

Foodbanks and Mental Health Support for Vulnerable Adults
J
ames founded a foodbank scheme for his developments. Crisis foodbank cupboards are available on site with access to mental health professionals to help vulnerable tenants. He has led the way in Liverpool developments with 100% social tenancies for vulnerable adults.

Statement from The Children’s Hospital Charity

“James has been a hugely dedicated and valued supporter of Sheffield Children’s Hospital, raising over £25,000 in the past year alone.

Memorably, this has included running several half and full marathons in sweltering heat to support The Children’s Hospital Charity, all while carrying a giant, 5ft 4”, 20kg teddy on his back- the bear was affectionately called Theo after our charity mascot!

His steadfast support also extended to purchasing a Bears of Sheffield sculpture at auction and offering his buildings to display our charity snowflakes on his buildings around Christmas, all to raise much-needed funds for the hospital.

We are truly grateful to have James’ support who is helping to raise awareness for Sheffield Children’s, and change the lives of the patients, families, and staff at the hospital through his fundraising”.

– Tchad Western, Chief Fun Officer, The Children’s Hospital Charity

After a delay of 2 years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, James and his team made their way up Mount Kilimanjaro in September 2022.

James hiked with Theo the giant teddy bear strapped to his back, as is customary for his fundraising efforts and altogether the teams raised over £21,000 for the Children’s Hospital Charity.

“This is a challenge which will test them to their limits, but it also matches the enthusiasm, dedication and affection they have for our hospital. Every penny they raise will support Sheffield Children’s where it’s needed most, including by building a new life-saving Helipad. Thank you so much”. – Sophie Coburn, Children’s Hospital Charity

James walked 100 miles from Nottingham to Hull, travelling from Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon. The start and end points were Nottingham’s Goose Fair and Hull Fair –  a fitting choice for the charity of choice, Showmen’s Mental Health Awareness.

The 2 fun fairs have been going since the 1200s, bringing with them a proud tradition of performer and fairground communities which Showmen’s aims to help by encouraging open discussion of mental health issues.

The cause is close to James’ heart as his son was born with the condition. James ran the marathon with a giant teddy bear (named after Theo, the Sheffield Children’s Hospital Mascot) strapped to his back.

“He has already had practice carrying the bear having done so during the recent Sheffield Half Marathon”.

“Today I am doing the Continuous 100k Peak District Ultra Challenge carrying our own giant Theo bear to raise funds and awareness for the Children’ hospital charity.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me on previous events and I hope you can continue to do so now. Every donation counts and seeing them come through will keep me motivated through the hill climbs and hike through the night”. – James Holmes
